From ISO 20022 Regulatory Milestone to Modernization: Banking’s Next Chapter

An ACI Worldwide Digital Showcase brought to you by GDS.

The Federal Reserve’s ISO 20022 cutover has changed the playing field for U.S. banks.

What began as a compliance requirement has now opened the door to new opportunities and challenges across payments. Meeting the ISO 20022 deadline is a major milestone, but it’s just the beginning. Now that your systems are compliant, we'll unpack what comes next for financial institutions.

What began as a regulatory mandate has now redrawn the competitive landscape. How? Sweeping growth, richer payments data transparency, faster reconciliation, and new product opportunities. It's time to unlock value beyond regulatory compliance, streamline high-value and real-time payment processes and enable new products that customers are demanding.

We will explore the real-world impact of the new standard, what it means for payment operations, and why modernization has moved from a “someday” initiative to a strategic imperative. The discussion will address the risks of delaying system upgrades, the growing gap between modernized and legacy institutions, and the architectural choices that set the foundation for long-term growth.

This is not just a technical deep dive. We will connect the dots between technology, business models, and customer expectations, showing U.S. banks how to turn a regulatory milestone into a catalyst for transformation and competitive differentiation.

Key questions we’ll discuss:

How are banks rethinking product and service innovation, as well as restructuring their data capabilities having met ISO 20022’s deadline?

What operational and architectural strategies are proving most effective for balancing short-term upgrade costs with long-term modernization benefits?

How can machine learning and intelligent automation extract maximum value from ISO 20022 data and improve fraud detection, compliance, and customer experience?

With a dedicated group of experts across ACI Worldwide, Swift, and Federal Reserve Financial Services, we’ll delve into how forward-looking banks are already harnessing ISO 20022 data to streamline operations and design customer-facing innovations. Where AI and ML is being applied to improve fraud detection, drive real-time compliance, and optimize cross-border payments.
