Most organisations know who's completed their training. But when it comes to knowing who's genuinely ready to perform, the picture is often far less clear. In fact, 76% of organisations in Learning Pool's latest workforce readiness benchmarking research say frontline employees not being fully job ready creates operational risk.

The readiness gap is also showing up in inconsistent performance. Some 41% report significant or extreme variation between their highest and lowest-performing locations, while organisations with a unified view of performance are 3.5 times more likely to report consistent frontline performance.

Learning itself can also get in the way. Nearly three-quarters say accessing training disrupts employees’ ability to do their jobs, even though half say learning already happens naturally during shifts or on the job.

The challenge is not a lack of investment or intent. While 98% believe their performance initiatives are effective, many still face barriers including system complexity, limited manager support and time constraints.

Drawing on these findings, this private discussion will explore what workforce readiness means in practice, how organizations are measuring it and where leaders see the greatest opportunity to improve. It will also consider how HR, L&D and operational leaders can demonstrate the business value of workforce investment, particularly across large, distributed frontline teams.
