This month, we held our latest GDS Supply Chain Summit in Boston. Hosted by @Tim Cassidy, the summit brought together global supply chain leaders to discuss driving successful supply chain transformation, building and maintaining a resilient supply chain, and ensuring ethical practices.

With over 100 supply chain leaders representing 87 unique brands, the summit provided a platform for sharing invaluable insights and expertise.

In this article, we distill the top insights and lessons from supply chain leaders.

1. Navigating AI transformation

Executives face significant challenges in implementing AI into the supply chain, including talent acquisition and data accessibility. However, AI holds promise in building a robust talent pipeline and addressing scalability issues.

2. Embracing cultural transformation

Company culture plays a pivotal role in successful transformation efforts. 90% of executives acknowledge the increasing importance of company culture, with leadership development identified as the most impactful factor by 52% of them.

Achieving a collaborative environment in the face of change can improve talent management, and provide the transparency and leadership needed to get transformation projects over the finish line.

3. Driving leadership transformation

While digital transformation efforts are common, success remains elusive for many organizations. Only 1 in 3 digital transformation efforts are successful. A 2021 BCG study of 850 organizations found that just over a third were able to achieve their digital transformation objectives.

Change management requires a well-communicated plan while assessing risks and developing mitigation strategies. Get everyone on board to ensure common challenges are being solved.

So, what’s next for supply chain leaders?

Here are our top 3 predictions.

1. Empowerment through engagement

People are more likely to embrace change when they feel they’ve contributed to its creation. Empowerment hinges on individuals’ decisions to engage and participate actively in the transformation process. By leveraging the collective wisdom of their workforce, businesses will navigate change more smoothly.

2. The challenge of change

Overcoming the challenges of change will remain a significant hurdle for many organizations. Despite the inevitability of change, the failure rate of change initiatives is expected to persist. Organizations that effectively address resistance, communicate transparently, and provide adequate support during periods of change will stand the best chance of success.

3. Progress through change

Looking ahead, organizations that are capable of translating change into tangible progress will outperform their peers. While change is constant, progress requires proactive management and strategic alignment. Enterprises that embrace innovative solutions, foster collaboration between human and machine, and prioritize agility and resilience will thrive in the era of supply chain.
