At the recent GDS Security Insight Summit, CISOs and security industry leaders came together to discuss the pressing security industry challenges. Hosted by Kristina Cartwright, senior executives explored key themes, from AI implementation to the human factors in cybersecurity – with the shared goal of driving the future of security.

Who are our attendees?

92 attendees, from 78 unique brands joined the GDS Security Insight Summit, all of them leading professionals in the security sector, including CISOs, VPs of Security, and Directors of Threat Prevention.

On average, these security professionals boasted a budget of $26 million, with the average project spend estimated to be $13 million.

What are security leaders focusing on?

The top project spending focus unveiled at the summit was data security – an essential aspect of the security landscape in 2024. Other notable spending focuses for our attendees included consulting, digital transformation, adaptive security, and ATP / threat intelligence / OSINT.

As well as exploring the key project focus areas, senior security professionals at the summit also explored three key themes:

  1. Checkmate 2024: Leveraging AI’s strategic prowess
  2. Zero trust: From theory to reality
  3. Cybersecurity human factors: It takes a village

What did our attendees learn?

Charles Griffith, Former CTO, Quiet Platforms, shared his key learnings from the summit in this LinkedIn post.

He highlighted discussions from the summit, including Katie Arrington’s, Former CISO in the Department of Defense, presentation: ‘Shaping cybersecurity strategy’ and Annam Lyer’s, Product Manager at WizAir keynote, ‘Accelerate AI innovation securely with AI-SPM’.

Pulling it altogether, Griffith noted that: “All of these discussions underscore the need to “build in” security from the onset of each solution, coding through deployment.”

He also underlined the importance of some key areas to consider, including investing in build infrastructure, implementing safeguards, and building future-friendly security solutions.

GDS Predictions

Following the discussions discussed and the insights shared between security leaders at the summit, GDS Group crafted 3 predictions for the future of security.

1. Empowered security ecosystems:

Organizations will prioritize building an empowered workforce and leadership culture, focusing on accountability, autonomy, and alignment with the overall mission.

2. Challenges and opportunities in AI adoption:

The adoption of AI will introduce challenges, such as navigating legal landscapes and addressing biases in data science. However, in overcoming these barriers, new opportunities for inn ovation and growth will arise.

3. Zero Trust security evolution:

The journey towards Zero Trust security will continue to evolve. Organizations will need to invest in refining their strategies to adapt to evolving threats.
