Chatbots – What is the Future?

Article - IT
By Balve Bains|4th November 2022

Nobody is certain about the potential of chatbots and artificial intelligence (AI), but we do know its certainties. Chatbots will become more universal as they become more affordable and easier to use and, as AI technology continues to evolve, chatbots will likely become more sophisticated and be able to handle more complex tasks. They will continue to grow in popularity as companies learn how to best utilize them to improve customer service and support.

As conversational AI becomes more widely used, it is likely that we will see an increase in the number of people who are able to work with them effectively. This could lead to a decrease in the cost of research, development, and deployment, making them even more accessible to businesses of all sizes.

Additionally, as chatbots become more sophisticated, they will be able to take on more complex tasks such as natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML). This could allow businesses to use it for a variety of different purposes beyond customer service and support, such as marketing and sales.

The popularity has increased exponentially which has led to several different platforms and frameworks being developed specifically for chatbot development. These include platforms like Botpress, Motion.ai, and ChatFuel. As the number of chatbot developers increases, so too will the number of these specialized platforms and frameworks. This could make development even easier and more accessible for those who are not experienced in coding or AI. We have spoken about the benefits of this type of software application but what about the negatives?

Do a quick google search on “chatbots” and various damaging news articles pop up with bots being racist, homophobic, and even, sentient. If those three reasons were not enough, a scathing report from VentureBeat states that if the “chatbot experience ends up being negative in the customer’s eyes, 73% won’t use that chatbot again.”

The billion-dollar question is what does the future look like? In short, it’s looking very bright. They are becoming much more affordable, easier to use, more intelligent, and developed for a variety of different purposes beyond customer service. Furthermore, specialized platforms and frameworks are making chatbot growth much more accessible. All these factors point to a future in which chatbots will play an increasingly important role in our lives
